Walking, running and biking on the Brooklyn Bridge many have done but what about a full-fledged photo shoot? Sunday, October 15th the talented GiaNina Paolantonio invited us along on her amazing BK journey with NC Photo Guy. We styled her in three of our newest dance line leotards and of course a fashion-forward dress from Sally Miller.
But what is it about the Brooklyn Bridge that draws everyone to it? Maybe it's the structure? The views? Or maybe perhaps it is the story behind it.
Quick little history lesson; the Brooklyn Bridge is a hybrid cable-stayed/suspension bridge and is one of the oldest bridges of either type in the United States. Completed in 1883, it connects Manhattan and Brooklyn. The towers are built of limestone, granite, and cement. The bridge was designed by a German immigrant called John August Roebling. When performing surveys for the construction, Roebling had an accident where some of his toes where crushed. Because of this situation, he supervised the project from his apartment (which had a view of the construction grounds). The interesting thing is that Roebling’s wife, Emily Warren, was the one who provided guidance to the engineers on site. A lot of times, she is not given credit for her work but she spent 11 years serving as her husband’s aid and ended up being an expert in mathematics, materials and cable construction.
Emily Warren was fearless, brave and powerful back in 1883 and I'm sure if Moon Child were around she would have been one of our MC girls! Inspired by her story, I now add her to my list of influential females, just like the brave GiaNina.
Dodging tourists and scary barking cyclists, GiaNina climbed to the occasion and completed the photo shoot like the fearless, brave and powerful teen she is!
Wind vs. Photo Shoot
The wind gave a pretty good fight but in the end we won!
