October is National Down Syndrome month and we at Moon Child celebrate and hope to bring awareness to all. As many of you know, I coached the RFH Dance Team and last year I had the privilege of working alongside with a beautiful young lady Malen Grubaugh. Malen currently holds the position as manager for the RFH Dance Team and is with Down syndrome.
Growing up in Fair Haven and attending College in New York I never had any interactions with someone with down syndrome, and at my very first meeting with Malen, I just knew right at that moment that she was going to change my life for the better. I never met someone who radiates so much love and self-confidence and knows every word to every song!
Malen made me realize that all my so-called flaws are not flaws that in fact, they are what makes me well me! I’ve learned to stop worrying about what others think and are doing, which I wished I learned earlier especially in my middle school and high school years. I have learned to stop and enjoy the simple things in life again and to give great hugs. Malen's laugh warms your heart; her smile is contagious, her hugs are heavenly, and her heart is pure gold.
I hope this inspires you as much as Malen encourages my life. I think in today's world more then ever we should always radiate love and learn to love ourselves and each other.
Enjoy the behind the scenes of Malen's Moon Child photo shoot!
